BSPP Senior and Junior Fellowships

Senior Fellowships

BSPP offers Fellowships to its members, of up to 3 months duration away from their normal place of work. These are intended to stimulate and facilitate studies or training to the benefit of plant pathology. Fellowships are intended to provide funds for travel, consumables and other necessary costs. The Fund is not intended to cover salaries, but subject to approval by the Fellowships Committee, money can be used to offset additional costs arising from the proposed project. Reports of completed Fellowships will be presented to the Board and will normally be published in the Society's newsletter.

Applicants should submit a detailed outline of the collaboration or project for which assistance is sought, including: the scientific background to the work; clear aims and objectives; potential and intended benefits; and the period of study. Applicants should include letters of support from their employer and host institution, including costs broken down to show travel and subsistence, consumables, overheads and any other relevant costs. A full curriculum vitae of the applicant, with an outline of research interests, should also be included. Applications to the Fellowship Scheme should be made to the President-Elect.

Junior Fellowships

These are intended to support the travel and subsistence (but not consumables) costs of post graduate students (registered for PhD or MSc by research) to visit another laboratory for up to two weeks. A visit to a laboratory in another country will be considered. The aim is to encourage collaboration and interdisciplinary research, to enable students to acquire new techniques and to make new contacts.

Applicants should submit a one page outline of the collaboration or project for which assistance is sought, including: the scientific background to their thesis work; clear aims and objectives; potential and intended benefits; and the period of study. Applicants should include letters of support from their supervisor, including costs broken down to show travel and subsistence, and acceptance by the host laboratory for the proposed dates. A full curriculum vitae of the applicant, should also be included. Applications to the Fellowship Scheme can be made at any time to the BSPP Education Officer and will be judged also by the President Elect.
