TIME-RESOLVED FLUOROMETRY: AN OVERVIEW OF THE CHEMISTRY AND APPLICATIONS IN SCREENING AND DIAGNOSTICS

Time-resolved fluorometry (TRF) with lanthanide chalate labels has become a well established technology for diagnostics, population screening and, more recently, High Throughput Screening for drug discovery. The utilization of highly fluorescent lanthanide chelates has enabled the development of a wide variety of sensitive TRF assays, both heterogeneous and homogeneous In format. The unique properties of TRF, the ability to combine temporal with high spatial resolution allows robust assay configurations with features, such as multilabel detection and miniaturization of assays utilizing the recently Introduced high density (384 and 1536 well), microtitration plates, to greatly improve sample throughput.
