The BSPP Presidential Meeting this year has a very special theme: to celebrate the bicentenary of Charles Darwin and the influence of his theory to the science of plant pathology. We debate the major crops and their pathogens, reflect on the past and contemplate the future. We have lined up an exciting list of speakers that are sure to generate an interesting debate – and their challenge is to bring Mr Darwin into their presentation. There will also be a champagne reception in the Dinosaur Gallery and a Presidential dinner at Somerville College. The meeting will be preceded by the Molecular Biology of Plant Pathogens Meeting on 21 September 2009 which is also sponsored by the BSPP. We encourage contributions from student members of our society. The P. H. Gregory Prize will be awarded at the meeting to the best presentation made by a post-graduate speaker and the Colhoun Poster Prize will be awarded to the best poster from a post-graduate student. This year, the P.H Gregory prize will be held at the MBPP meeting (see below). A special registration rate for post-graduate members of the society is available to encourage the widest possible involvement. |
MBPP will be held at the same venue, the day before the presidential meeting. MBPP is a successful and popular annual meeting for Ph.D students and post-doctoral researchers to present their work in an informal atmosphere. We are interested in all plant pathogens: bacteria, oomycetes, nematodes, fungi, and viruses. Again sponsored by BSPP and others, this meeting provides exceptional value. Why not stay on an extra day to enjoy the special Presidential Meeting? Reduced accommodation rates are available for students staying for the BSPP Presidential Meeting.
