The Board of the BSPP is delighted to announce that Richard Shattock has been made an Honorary Member of the Society.
Richard has been an active member of the BSPP throughout his scientific career, and has undertaken a number of roles on the Board and with the BSPP journals. He was BSPP Programme Secretary between 1987 and 1991 and was also a member of the programme committee for ICPP98 in Edinburgh. He was an Editor of Plant Pathology for 15 years before becoming Senior Editor in 2000, a role he held until 2010. His outstanding leadership of the Society's flagship journal Plant Pathology resulted in its impact factor rising from below 1 to 2.368, rivalling Phytopathology and Plant Disease. In addition Richard maintained the income from Plant Pathology, which is not a trivial task in the face of massive cuts to university library budgets. Without this income BSPP would not be the Society it is today. In addition to his services to the BSPP, Richard also enjoyed a distinguished career as an active researcher and teacher at the University of Wales, Bangor for 33 years until his retirement in 2004.
I am sure that the whole membership will want to join the Board in congratulating Richard on becoming an Honorary Member of the British Society for Plant Pathology.
