BSPP Board Member Nominations

Each year, members of the Society are invited to nominate fellow members who would be willing to serve as elected members of the BSPP Board for a three year period. This year, nominations are required for two elected Board members.

The Board of BSPP meets four times each year, usually in London, to manage the affairs and business of the Society. This includes planning the annual Presidential Conference, managing the Society’s finances, and meeting our obligations as a charity. In addition to these formal duties, the Board is exploring ways to promote the interests of the Society and its members and there is a constant stream of new and exciting initiatives. Meetings are conducted in a friendly and relaxed manner and we are lucky to have a wide range of skills, outlooks and interests represented on the Board.  Membership of the Board of BSPP provides a great opportunity to shape the activities and future of the Society. The wellbeing of the Society depends on the continuing support members give the Board.

Nominations are required for one elected Board member to serve from 2019 - 2021.  Nominations, which should be seconded and have the approval of the nominee, should be emailed to the Board Secretary, Sarah Holdgate, by 29th August 2018 (secretary@bspp.org.uk).  A short summary (150 words) of the nominee’s academic interests and achievements should also be provided.  If more than one nomination is received an electronic ballot will be held in the late autumn. In the event of a ballot, if any member would prefer to vote by post, rather than electronically, they should inform the Secretary now and she will make arrangements to provide a postal vote.

BSPP Vice President Nominations and BSPP Honorary Member Nominations

Members of the Society are also invited to suggest possible candidates for the role of Vice President for 2019. The Vice President currently serves for one year before becoming President Elect, and a further year before becoming President.

Finally, Members are invited to put forward their thoughts on individuals to be considered by the BSPP Board for Honorary Membership.  Honorary Members will be selected based on the nominee’s contribution to the science and art of plant pathology taking into account all aspects e.g. research science, education, advisory/extension work, industrial R & D.  The nominee’s contribution to the work of BSPP will also be considered along with their publications and impact.  Nominators will be expected to provide a short article for the BSPP Newsletter to introduce the new Honorary Member should the nomination be accepted.

The deadline for both of these nominations is also 29th August 2018 and the Board will consider election of a Vice President and Honorary Membership at the September Board meeting.

The Board look forward to hearing from you.

Sarah Holdgate

Board Secretary, secretary@bspp.org.uk
