Announcing the prize winners at the BSPP 2014 Presidential conference:

PH Gregory prize

The £250 PH Gregory prize and certificate for the best presentation made by a young scientist who has not previously presented at a paper at a BSPP meeting was awarded to Laura Stevens (top right) for her presentation on the P. infestans: potato, AVR3a:R3a interaction. Her work generated vocal excitement at the conference, she was encouraged to skip dinner and get back to the lab bench to continue her exciting work with shuffled potato R genes!

J Colhoun prize

The £100 J Colhoun prize and certificate for best poster was awarded to Douglas Pyott (bottom right) for his presentation of experiments on potyvirus infections, the high quality of all entrants to the competition had made the judges’ decision a long one.
