The BSPP Outreach Officer invited secondary biology teachers and sixth-formers to join in with the 2015 Presidential Meeting. This novel approach to outreach took advantage of the large gathering of scientists at the Presidential Meeting offering teachers and sixth-formers their own dedicated session and a chance to join in with the poster session.

A mix of short-talks from leading researchers and a chance to join the conference poster sessions helped reveal the world of plant disease to a new audience and support their  learning for GCSE and A level. Sat around in the informal setting of the Blue Skies room, the students responded really well to the talks asking challenging questions which clearly demonstrated their understanding of the talks

Damaging & Deadly has proved popular every year as a novel science enrichment activity or teacher cpd and so if you are a secondary school science teacher in the Warwick area, look out we'll be doing it all again when this year's Presidential meeting rolls into town later in the year (December 2018)
