Plant Doctors go to Edinburgh International Science Festival
09 Jan 2014
Following hot on the heels of the Big Bang Fair; on the 12th and 13th April the BSPP outreach team will be heading north to run the Plant Doctor stand at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh as part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival.
The event is free to attend and is expected to attract between 200 - 400 visitors. This will be our first Scottish event and we’re hoping our activities will go down well!
The purpose of Edinburgh International Science Festival is to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to discover the wonder of the world around them.
Being part of the Royal Botanic Garden event means we’ll be alongside other plant-related activities, including: The Secret Powers Of Plants (Scotland’s Rural College) and Expedition Botanics (Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh).
We’ll be running similar activities to the Plant Doctor stand at the Big Bang Fair. Visitors will be asked to match up similar human and plant diseases, and identify 'plant patient' symptoms to work out if the diseases are fungal or viral. They will also be able to look at healthy and diseased plants close-up under microscopes; make models of plant attackers and play the new Fraxinus Facebook game.
