Dr Robert Black - Senior Editor, New Disease Reports


Rob Black is a lawyer and regulatory scientist specialising in Biosecurity (sanitary and phytosanitary border controls). He was a Bacteriology Editor for NDR from 2002 until becoming Senior Editor in December 2006. Originally with a background in diagnostic plant pathology especially fungi and bacteria, the focus of his work progressively shifted to legal and regulatory affairs including plant quarantine and pesticides control. Rob did overseas service in Jamaica, Thailand and Belize and then was employed at the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) 1996-2002. After taking formal legal qualifications Rob moved to the Department of Law within the University of Greenwich in 2002. He retired in 2006 as Reader in Law to continue work as an independent consultant associated with NRI.
