Agricultural Science Agency PhD Studentship in Bacterial Plant Pathology, Edinburgh 3 year research studentship funded by the Contract Research Fund of the Rural and Environmental Research and Analysis Directorate of the Scottish Government You will be based at SASA but registered through Heriot Watt University. Your project is a component of a multi-centred research initiative, involving the Scottish Crop Research Institute, Dundee and the Central Science Laboratory, York, and forms part of our ongoing investigations into the significance and threat of soft-rotting bacteria of the genus Dickeya to Scotland’s potato industry. Experimental work will encompass field surveys and greenhouse trials but will be primarily lab-based, mainly exploring the use of molecular methods to describe diversity in this plant pathogenic group. You should have or expect to have a first or upper second class degree in a relevant science. Experience of plant pathology, microbiology or molecular biology is desirable. Good communication and computer literacy skills are required. A valid UK driving licence is essential. The stipend for the first year will be £12,600 and will increase in line with Research Councils UK-funded studentships in subsequent years.
