The British Society for Plant Pathology is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Best Student Paper Prizes for its journals Plant Pathology and Molecular Plant Pathology.
The Plant Pathology Best Student Paper Prize has been awarded to William J. W. Thomas (University of Western Australia) for his paper on the genetic basis of resistance to white leaf spot in canola (Brassica napus). This research represents the first identification of genomic regions associated with resistance to this increasingly important disease and provides valuable targets for future breeding programmes.
The Molecular Plant Pathology Best Student Paper Prize has been awarded to Corrie V. Vincent (Memorial University of Newfoundland) for her study demonstrating that concanamycins are key virulence factors in Streptomyces scabiei, the pathogen responsible for potato common scab. Her work delivers definitive evidence for the molecular mechanisms underlying pathogenicity in this globally important disease.
Both prizes recognise outstanding scholarship by postgraduate students and highlight the breadth and quality of research published in BSPP journals. The Society congratulates both winners on their excellent contributions to plant pathology research.
