Are you interested in getting involved in supporting the BSPP by becoming a trustee?
Our trustees are essential for the smooth running of our organisation, focusing on supporting specific aspects of our day-to-day work, making decisions about future activities and awarding our generous grants. It is a great opportunity to get to know the society well and to develop new networks within the field of plant pathology.
We have two upcoming opportunities for elected members of the BSPP board of trustees from 1 January 2027 – Membership Secretary and Engagement Secretary. Members of the Society are invited to nominate themselves or fellow members who would be willing to serve for a three-year period. Trustees attend four board meetings a year, in person or online, and three to four working group meetings. Trustees also review applications to our grant funding calls.
In addition, the membership secretary supports current and new members with enquiries and works with the staff team to ensure membership databases and payments are up to date. The engagement secretary supports our communications and engagement with members and the public.
Requests for the full details about the roles and questions regarding the board positions should be emailed to the BSPP Secretary (email below). Informal queries regarding the roles can also be addressed to the current Membership Secretary, Ashleigh Holmes, at membership@bspp.org.uk and for the Engagement Secretary role, Carrie Brady, at promotions@bspp.org.uk
Nominations by any member should be seconded by another BSPP member and have the approval of the nominee. Self-nominations should be seconded by two members.
Nominations should be emailed to the BSPP Secretary, Trisna Tungadi, by 31st October 2026 (secretary@bspp.org.uk) along with a CV and a short summary (200 words) of the nominee’s experience and motivation to apply. If more than one nomination is received for the position an electronic ballot will be held.
In addition, we are also calling for nominations for our next Second Vice President. The position is for a four-year term, culminating in a year as President of the society. The presidential roles are not elected by the membership, but we welcome expressions of interest from individual members as above, or nomindations for suitable candidates.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Trisna Tungadi, Board Secretary Secretary@bspp.org.uk
