Incoming Fellowships

Members may apply for Incoming Fellowships to support a visiting researcher to work with them for one to three months duration. Fellowships are intended to stimulate and facilitate studies or training to the benefit of plant pathology. Any applicant must have been a member of BSPP for at least two years and no member may be awarded an Incoming Fellowship more than once in any period of two years. The visiting researcher must also become a member of BSPP.

Incoming Fellowships are intended to support (a) travel, accommodation and other personal costs directly related to the visit and (b) a contribution to consumables and other essential research costs directly related to the applicant’s proposed research in the host laboratory. The maximum value of an award is generally £5000 although members are encouraged to be economical.

  • Please write up to 500 words containing a concise description of the collaboration or project for which assistance is sought, including: the scientific background to the work; aims and objectives; potential and intended benefits for plant pathology; and the period of study.
  • A list of research costs with a justification of each item. In all Fellowship schemes, ineligible costs include consumables for long-term projects which will continue after the applicant has left the host institution, overheads, bench fees not directly related to the project, staff costs at the host institution and similar charges. Total research costs in excess of £100 per week will not normally be considered eligible.
  • Applicants must state what funds are available for their visit from either their home institution or the proposed host institution. Applicants who are funded by a research council or other body that regularly supports travel in connection with research collaboration must submit evidence that they have applied for sponsorship from that body. Applicants who receive support from other sources that meets their costs in part or in full are required to inform the President-Elect of the amounts as soon as possible. If a BSPP award has already been paid, then the amount in excess of the stated required sum must be returned.
  • A full curriculum vitae of the applicant
