BSPP is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Gerard Clover as the new Senior Editor of New Disease Reports to take over from Dr Rob Black who is retiring after 10 years in the position. Presently, editorial arrangements are in transition with Dr Clover handling new submissions and Dr Black maintaining responsibility for online publication of approved reports. New submissions must, as always, be addressed to ndr@bspp.org.uk. There will be a further announcement when the handover is completed.

Gerard Clover is RHS Head of Plant Health. He studied for his PhD at Rothamsted Research before working as a post-doctoral scientist in Defra’s Food and Environment Research Agency. Prior to joining the RHS he managed the New Zealand Plant Health & Environment Laboratory, the government reference laboratory for plant pests and diseases, and led the development of phytosanitary policy for imported plants.
Gerard is responsible for leading the RHS’s team of plant pathologists and entomologists including developing a programme of research to identify and control pests and diseases, undertaking surveillance and sharing knowledge of pests and diseases with members. His personal area of expertise is the detection, characterisation and management of virus and virus-like diseases. He has published extensively in scientific journals and is an editor for the British Society for Plant Pathology’s New Disease Reports.
