Virus in bacteria. The symptom is lysis. i.e. they replicate until the host cell bursts. This frees many phage particles which infect again. The bacteriophage lambda is used for many cloning purposes, e.g., cDNA and genomic libraries, including expression libraries. Bacteriophages have potential in biological control.
