1) The mechanisms of disease resistance at the cellular level are termed innate or plant immunity – see ETI and MTI. 2) The original definition concerns the ability to avoid infection entirely without a visible defence response. A useful concept in virus biology where the ability to infect is dependent on host factors which might not work with the apparatus of the virus.
