Foundation stock. A block of selected parent plants of a vegetatively propagated crop that have been tested and found free from plant pathogenic viruses, viroids, bacteria, fungi and nematodes that may follow the propagative materials (cuttings, runners, graft wood, tissue culture, tubers). Both the nuclear stock and the material propagated from it must be isolated and grown under strict hygienic conditions to prevent (re)infection of relevant plant pathogens.
