John Innes Centre
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Brown Group at the John Innes Centre, working on cutting-edge science in the field of Plant Health.
About the Brown Group
The Brown Group studies the evolution of plant diseases, especially fungal diseases of crops and trees, with the aim of improving disease control in farming and forestry.
They are especially interested in evolution in realistic situations: durable resistance to multiple diseases in elite crop varieties, pest and disease resistance in natural woodland, adaptive evolution of pathogen species and communities, and the challenge of achieving sustainable disease control in productive agriculture.
The role
Working as part of a team led by Prof James Brown you will characterise a candidate gene for resistance to a foliar disease of wheat and write a paper reporting this gene. You will also assemble relevant data and draft a paper reporting the cloning and characterisation of Stb15.
The ideal candidate
The successful applicant will have a PhD (full award or expected within 6 months) in a biological science subject or a related discipline. Applicants must have substantial successful experience of working with Septoria leaf blotch and excellent knowledge of the molecular genetics of disease resistance in wheat. Familiarity with the use of GWAS in genetic analysis and a good knowledge of data analysis, including linear mixed modelling, is also required. A high standard of scientific writing and presentation is expected.
Additional information
Interviews will be held on 7th July 2022
