Have you ever wondered what those odd-looking lumps and bumps growing on leaves, shoots and roots are? Then this session on plant galls at the intersection between plant-microbe interactions and plant organ development is right for you!
This session aims to bring together researchers that are interested in the diversity of plant organs that are induced and directed in their development by another organism, we commonly refer as plant galls. This includes plant galls induced by parasitic and pathogenic colonisers such as root knot nematodes, phytoplasma and gall wasps but also symbiotic root nodules induced by beneficial nitrogen-fixing bacteria. The aim of the workshop is to promote knowledge exchange and discussion between molecular biologists, ecologists and agricultural scientists on the fascinating topic of coloniser-induced plant organ development and their impact on plant health in natural ecosystems and crop production systems.
